Craft Cider in Kelowna: Your Guide to Okanagan Valley Cideries
Why Kelowna Is Becoming a Craft Cider Destination
When people think of the Okanagan Valley, they think wine. And sure, we've got world-class wineries. But there's something else happening here worth paying attention to: craft cider.
Kelowna and the surrounding Okanagan region are quickly becoming one of Canada's premier craft cider destinations. Not just because we grow great apples — because a handful of small, land-based cideries are doing things the right way. Estate-grown fruit, small-batch production, and zero shortcuts.
What Makes Okanagan Cider Different?
Estate-Grown Apples
Most commercial ciders use apple concentrate or bulk juice trucked in from elsewhere. Okanagan cideries like Hardcore grow their own apples on estate orchards — complete control over quality from tree to bottle. When you're working with one crop per year, every apple matters.
Real Fruit, No Concentrates
Fruit-flavoured ciders are everywhere. Most use concentrates, extracts, or artificial flavourings. At Hardcore, we use real BC fruit — strawberries, blackberries — added post-fermentation in pressurized tanks. No concentrates. No shortcuts.
Small-Batch, Hands-On Production
Craft cider in Kelowna isn't made in massive industrial facilities. It's made by small operations where every batch is crafted by hand, tasted, adjusted, and bottled with care.
Barrel Aging & Innovation
Some Okanagan cideries are pushing the boundaries with barrel aging, hopped expressions, and experimental small-batch releases. Whiskey barrel-aged ciders, hopped ciders, and limited Vault releases are all part of the evolving Kelowna cider scene.
How Hardcore Cider Co. Fits Into the Kelowna Cider Scene
We're a small, land-based cidery in the Okanagan Valley. We grow our own apples, source real BC fruit, and make cider the way it's supposed to be made — no shortcuts, no compromises.
Our lineup includes:
- The Core — Classic Okanagan cider, clean and balanced
- Unhazy Hopped — Dry-hopped with Citra and Mosaic for tropical aromatics
- Strawberry Ciderita — Fresh BC strawberries and lemon, bright and refreshing
- Barrel Proof — Aged in Okanagan Spirits whiskey barrels for depth and complexity
- Black Hole — Fresh BC blackberries aged in oak wine barrels, rich and dark
- The Vault — Limited small-batch releases exclusively for Cider Club members
Every bottle is 750ml, hand-crafted, and made from one crop per year. When it's gone, it's gone.
Other Okanagan Cideries Worth Checking Out
We haven't tried them all, but if you're exploring the Okanagan cider scene beyond Hardcore, our next favourite is Scenic Road Cidery. They're doing quality work and are worth seeking out if you're in the area.
Where to Find Craft Cider in Kelowna
Direct from the Cidery
Many small cideries — including Hardcore — sell directly through their online stores. This is often the best way to get fresh cider, support small producers, and access limited releases. We offer free local delivery from Vernon to West Kelowna, plus Canada-wide shipping.
Join the Cider Club
If you want guaranteed access to limited releases and Vault expressions that never go public, the Cider Club is the only way in.
- $215 per case — 12 bottles at $17.92 each
- Free Canada-wide shipping on every delivery
- Locked-in pricing for life for the first 50 founding members
- Guaranteed allocation of every cider we make, including Vault releases
- 10% off all additional purchases year-round
Why We Don't Have a Tasting Room
At Hardcore, we focus on quality and the cider — not eco-tourism. Running a tasting room means higher overhead costs that get passed on to customers. We'd rather keep costs low and focus on what matters: the cider itself. We sell online and through our Cider Club.
Why Kelowna Cider Matters
The Okanagan Valley has the climate, the orchards, and the craft beverage culture to become one of Canada's top cider regions. Small cideries are proving that estate-grown fruit makes a difference, and that craft cider can stand alongside wine and beer as a premium beverage worth seeking out.
